President of GreenSmart, Tom Larsen speaks nationwide on issues relating to energy consumption and green innovations. A native of the San Francisco Bay Area, Larsen grew up during an era of awareness of the increasing smog, pollution and landfill encroachment of San Francisco Bay. In his architectural studies, he developed a holistic observational perspective about the place where humans and nature interact, which went beyond buildings. He studied environmental sciences and received a B.S. in Conservation of Natural Resources at U.C. Berkeley.
Larsen served on the Board of the Association of Professional Energy Manager when California utilities introduced cutting edge demand management incentives for commercial, industrial, and residential customers. Twenty-five years later, those projects are largely responsible for California’s energy consumption, 40% below the national average. Larsen is a deep believer that it is the millions of little things that make a difference.
