Barry Katz, CGP, LEED AP, is one of New England’s leading proponents of sustainability and green building. A veteran home builder with more than twenty years experience in new construction and remodeling, he now devotes himself exclusively to projects with a green focus. He is the recipient of the Connecticut Association of Homebuilders’ 2007 HOBI Award for Best Green House.
Katz’s newest venture, Greenworks Consulting, LLC offers sustainability and green building consulting services to commercial and residential clients nationally.
An increasingly busy public speaking schedule has taken Barry as far afield as San Diego for “Reinvention 2006,” sponsored by Residential Architect magazine, and to the Boston Society of Architects’ Residential Design Conference (2007, 2008, & 2009 - upcoming) where he has participated in panel discussions and presents an annual green building workshop for architects and building professionals.
Barry is a former chairman of the Westport, Connecticut Architectural Review Board. He is a part-time painter and an amateur pianist. His published writings have included newspaper columns on home improvement, and magazine articles on green building, architecture and the arts. He is currently at work on a book, “Practical Green Remodeling: Down-to-Earth Solutions for Everyday Homes,” due out from Taunton Press in early 2010. His blog, “The Future is Green” has attracted a rapidly growing readership since its introduction in November, 2008.
